Otago’s settled history spans over two hundred years and provides many trails following the old stock or gold-rush routes.
These tours allow adventurers access to old gold mines, rippling tussock grasslands and sub-alpine vistas. All the while, the rocks and tors provide a fantastic backdrop in this still unique area.

With access available in the Cairnmuir Ranges, Tarras and Lindis areas, Poolburn ‘Lord of the Rings’ area, Dunstan Range and Bendigo as well as many other places in Central Otago, you can be sure of somewhere new (or old) and exciting to go.

Ride through the highlands of Otago’s mountainous ranges and history on a High Country 4X4 day tour. Visit and travel through some of Otago’s famed high country runs and iconic landscapes. Follow gold trails and see relics from Otago’s historic gold-mining past and bask in the glow of sunlit tussock covered ranges.
With your choice of half or day trips and varied routes, your itinerary can include as much four wheel driving as you can handle, or you can kick back and sample the regions wine and other famed recreations between days.
High Country Trail’s permits and concessions allow travel through many restricted private and conservation areas. You will be taken to new heights on our routes that are chosen for their scenic, cultural and historic values.
You’ll be thrilled with a true four wheel drive experience in comfort and safety and you will be able to explore landscapes at more than 5000 ft (1600 m).
